Bugs [01-21-06]

I do maintenance as part of my BBS maintenance at midnight, and when I do I get the bugs below the following:

usurper /fmaint
usurper /scores

1) during \"usurper /fmaint\" it does something real fast and can't see what it says, but then it clears the screen and puts [press-a-key] and just sits there until I press a key (therefore, maintence sticks there until I come around the next day to hit a key)
2) during \"usurper /fmaint\" (after the pause bug) always says \"Could not find the Street-talk files.\"
3) during \"usurper /fmaint\" When npc teams attack another team, 80% of the time it locks up.
4) during \"usurper /scores\" it creates the scores, then clears the screen and prompts for a Local Login / \"Please enter your name below (or leave blank for First Last):\"

These bugs are preventing me from running this game on my BBS because it will hang on maintenance every night.

You don't indicate the version of Usurper you are using, and the Operating system you use. Wibdows 98, xp, me, linux etc?
Also what BBS software are you using?
Once you get it to finish maint, does it respond properly through your BBS software?
Can you use it in local mode?
Have you tweaked the usurper.cfg file to your preferences,or is it pretty much at defaults?
From your message do we assume your pathname to the usurper directory i s, C:/va/door/usurper ?Not sure why use run a seperate /scores run.
The scores as defined in the config, should be created during your /fmaint run.
OK, time to get to my 15 hour job for today.

Oops, my bad...

This is the newest version, v0.20d. I am running on Windows XP Home Edition, and I use Virtual Advanced BBS with VADV32 front end (http://www.vadvbbs.com).

The door works fine while running through the BBS, doesn't have any problems communicating or running via Telnet. I have been running it since Jan 21 everyday, so far I have not come to it to find it locked up on maintenance, perhaps the lockup is only the first time after resetting the game.

Local mode works just as good as Telnet/Fossil mode.

I have tweaked usurper.cfg to work with the telnet fossil software.

I decided to run scores upon logoff of game instead of nightly maintenance.

I have seen other bugs in the game, such as when reading the daily news [(N)ews of Today/Yesterday], whether it is yesterday or today, it will at random times put something like:

It is not always the same or in the same place, sometimes you can view news and it will not show, but most times it will glitch like that. If you need to see more examples of this, login to my board and run it for yourself ( telnet://bbs.chris-co.org ), and just repeatedly look at the news.

Those guys are all members of the Fakes.dat file. If you delete the file, it is re-created when the game runs, and the basic information for it is found in the usurper overlay file. You might see less of that if you turn Fake players off in the cnf file.
As I haven't done programming in almost ten years, and then NOT with windows, l don't have much idea as to how to even chase it, let alone capture it and kill it.

Glad to hear you have the ability to at least run now. I did look at the website on the BBS, it does look interesting.
