has anyone seen or know whats going on with the OPENSOURCE usurper web project... i guess some developers are trying to port it over to PHP wich would be fun as hell, but slow... but still fun..

i am sure you have all heard of and seen Legend of The Green Dragon PHP ...

is USURPER going to come to this?!!!

I dunno. I think it would kind of suck the fun out of Usurper. I played Legend of the Green Dragon, myself, and the way it played was rather slow and clunky, compared to Legend of the Red Dragon. It was like LotRD combined with a text-based Ultima Online, in a way. Which is sad, because I love both of those games, but got really bored with LotGD within a day. But anyway. . .yeah. I hope Usurper doesn't get a PHP-based cousin. That'd play like Hell.

I AGREE FULLY!

Legend of the Green Dragon is slow and clunky.. and USURPER would be no fun if it was done the same way..

but if they implimented SOCKET/PHP use .. wich has been proven to work for php/muds etc... it would be quick..

The reason i mention is cuz... USURPER needs a bigger fanbase! i have some people playin on my BBS and i try to get other people.. but they are all saying \"no graphics... bah\" .. cmon.. USE your IMAGINIATION.. its a quick game you play daily.. what can be better than that! ..

if anyone wants to see how PHP/SOCKET technology works.. (VERY QUICK! - REALTIME) check out http://sourceforge.net/projects/mudge/

cuz this is the only possible way i could ever see it working for the web.

What if they made a telnet server that just dish'd up games from a website. Instead of having to log into a telnet board then choose from a menu of what games to play. A user of a website, phpnuke or your own made one, clicks on a link then they can play usurper or what ever game without the menu option, because the menu would be apart of the website.

I know gamesrv could be made to do this with jta and the script feature, but after a user is done playing the game they are still booted out to the main menu which is a menu and not really something do able.

I have a pre alpha demo of it @ http://www.renegadebbs.net/games/webgames.php

It is an ALPHA because there is a number of problems I must over come first, but when finish'd it will be nice. The login/register doesn't record anything as of yet and it only uses one drop file at this time, but when I have some time to work on it the problems will be easy to fix. Amoung the problems is jta not doing screen clearing properly. which isn't easy for me to fix, but asking around for help. Of couse the website / php script could be redone to be better, but it was just a quick 10 min job.

If interestted in helping them let me know cause I could use someone that knows Java to fix some bugs in the jta20.jar . 8)

I'm trying to conceptualize what you mean (specifically). I have a method in place for doing something similar to what you are referring to right now. However, it does require that a client software application be installed on the client.

Assuming one has my Fidotel Surfer application installed, one can click throughout the web site, and -- upon entering the \"games menu\", one can simply click on the Usurper icon, and a telnet window pops up directly into the intro screen of the game.

It works \"perfectly\"... :)

Stop by and try it out :)
Cheers!
