just a note about version .20d, atleast on my system: it begins by pausing for about 30 seconds before it quits... i did get it to go to the game locally, but didn't try to get it working for the bbs after all that... i copied the major game files over the existing .20c ones and it just didn't fly.
i'm running linux mandrake and dosemu 1.1.99.something.

hopefully someone with some experience with linux and dosemu can help here. My only suggestion is to double check pathnames.. You have stumped me.

Hope you are able to get it going. As for calling, no particular reason, too many kingdoms, too little time, Grand-daughters, wife, daughter, Mom, My Grandmother in Hospital, Work, sleep etc.
Hope to make it back from time to time.

I have had version 0.20d working with dosemu 1.1.99, with the same delay problem as you explained, however, the game actually started for me. (previously i was running 0.19b6 with dosemu)
I was delayed about 40 seconds before either local mode or the game started.
I tried upgrading to the latest dosemu, 1.2.2 but that did not solve the delay problem. I had to downgrade to 0.20c to get rid of the delay.
To me, it did not seem like the delay was anything more then a delay. The game still worked proper, and there was no issues in game.
Can you downgrade to 0.20c and see if things work? No strange errors in the error.log, or on screen?
