Maint problem in 20d

Has anyone had problems running the Maint program on a Windows platform?

When running the maint program on Win2kpro -- with plenty of ram -- the machine slows to an absolute crawl -- and my \"servers alive\" times out while attempting to ping programs. It takes about 10-15min for the maint program to run, and longer if I have someone on the BBS via Telnet or Web. It's a horrible situation, and I've removed the option from my batch files....

Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks :)
Shannon

hi D,

which version of U are you running? Maybe you want to turn off the NPC relations allowed in the editor.exe.

Also, look out for the next update. It will be compiled without overhead.

Maint issue

THanks for the reply. I'm running the \"latest and greatest\" you have available.

The issue appears to be that the maint door is \"not\" releasing time slices to Windows as it's running. This -- of course -- slows down the door and it slows down windows because they are both competing for processor time.

In this next release, are you going to compile the maint application using a different door kit?

imho, I think Mandoor is one of the easiest to work with and the most efficient compiler for windows. It's just too bad it's been abandond.. :(

Thanks!

Maint. Prob.

I've noticed that the NPC RELATIONS is the file that keeps lagging the BBS I play on.

Very Lagged

My brother was logged onto my bbs and maintenance kicked on. It got to Gang Wars then pretty much stopped. It does have the option to do maintenance off the side and run the game normally. I think I'll switch to that.

risky?

 But is that not a bit risky?

It did indeed take my maintenance about 20-30 minutes to run, with version d usurper. The c version works fine.

I'm seeing this same problem under Linux and DOSEMU. Where's the \"NPC relations\" option? I'm not seeing it to check if it makes a difference.

NPC relations

Try option #153
and number of NPC children is option #175

Yes, it's much better now.

So did something change between 0.20c and 0.20d? And is there any chance of it being fixed?

Jakob released Version 20d the next day. Here is part of the description he posted here in the forum, with the release announcement.
---------------
Compared to the previous version this one has changed in one way. The size of the usurper.exe file has been drastically reduced. This has been done to conserve memory and avoid strange phenomena.
----------------

I am not sure what in the exe he reduced.
