Usurper Board

I cannot figure out how to solve this serious problem with Usurper (current version):

I install the game and it works until maintenance is run. Maintenance (run from a batch file which executes\"usurper /HMAINT\") completes for the game and I attempt to get launch the game after maintenance has completed and it freezes. It echoes a \"C\" and that's it:



I have no idea how to solve this problem. Please help.

I had to downgrade to v0.17 and it works now.
The new version does not work on the 98 machine.

Any help would still be greatly appreciated...

i have noproblems and my comp has never hadto upgrade or downgrade

Booch: I can only assume that 0.18 is compiled to run under 2000/XP or something. I took at look at your BBS and yeah your 0.17 is running fine. I guess if we can get you a registration code for 0.17 you'll be set for now but I guess I'm still curious to know why 0.18 just hangs on your machine.

Booch, I haven't done anything fancy to get it to work here. My Usurper Doors currently run on Windows 98 SE, on an Athlon system. I do have problems with WIn 98SE crashing, but that is a different problem.
I did have troubles with 98 running version 0.18. When version 0.20 arrived, it started working right off. I suspect it might have to do with the properties setting from within Win98.
I make backup copies or entire folders each day. I have found that occasionally if Usurper is NOT exited cleanly(whether during maintenance or playing), I must copy over a clean copy of usurper.exe and usurper.ovr. I do this from the backup copies.
I'm not certain what causes this, but I have seen that good short pathnames seem of most importance to properly run usurper.

You might also try downloading the file u.zip which has a version 0.20d usurper setup on it. I have been able to run this on two different 98 machines, a Win ME machine and XP-Pro machine. It can be downloaded from the http://www.knaper.org/usrp/U webpage
and use the usurper.exe and usurper.ovr from it to possibly run on your Win 98 machine.

Thanks for the advice and help. I'll try those techniques. Usurper 0.17 is now registered and still running fine on the old 98 machine, so it may not be something I avidly pursue...

But we'll see!
