Gamserv will "create" the node%1 folder as needed, and the door.sys file that is in that folder, and those should be in your D:\\spel\\usurperonline folder and they may only be there while they are being used..
door.sys itself is just a text file with your gamerserv user information listed in it, such as user name, amount of time left for the day and stuff like that. Usurper may or may not use the time left on gameserv to limit the amount of time left in it as well. But it will decrement the time left on the gameserv value upon exit back to gameserv.

READ ALL THE FOLLOWING FIRST BEFORE PROCEEDING

I have uploaded a file, http://www.knaper.com/u/new-DOOR.SYS that is a copy of the door.sys file I used on a Usurper game, where everyone was the same character, and all started at the exact same place. I had the door labeled as Waste, because there was only two characterrs in the game, the Queen , and this character, no dungeon fights, no NPC's no money, etceterea. The batch file used for it was http://www.knaper.com/u/waste.bat Now on both of these you will have to "save the link target as to your sysetm" or (and I just tested them with Netscape browser) "open link in New Window".
As I have stated, they are both test files, and should display as such, BUT as with everything else
virus scan to make certain they haven't been infected.

Ok Now back to your post, If your gamesrv is creating NODE6, then that is still OK, and the "problem" about it not creating NODE 1 is in gamesrv.ini and is probbably NOT why you can't use Usurper.
Gamesrv should be passing that information to usurper. While NODE6 is there, look in there to see if you have a file door.sys. Upon exit from usurper, that entire folder and contents may be deleted by gameserv.

OK absorb, and check this if any of it makes any sense.

Lenny has to go kill a dungeon monster fer breakfast.... :mrgreen:

My bat files look like this rigth now

cd D:\\spel\\usurperonline
D:\\spel\\usurperonline\\usurper.exe /N%1 /PC:\\usurperonline\\NODE%1
cd D:\\spel\\usurperonline\\node%1
And the batch file looks IN proper formatt

That is correct.. the gameserv creats node6 and there I got door.sys...
once I shut down gamesrv they delete that folder... but what does that meen?

I still can get it to work... still saying can find door.sys

The usurper gameitself has a normal Node folder.. not any number after it..

Sugjestion what to do now? I still think its something I writen wrong.. and I would sure like a example on how the bat file would look like with my folders.. (se former post for them)

That means to me that gamesrv is creating the required NODE%1 and door.sys during it's use of the usurper door. AND, it is cleaning up behind itself, once control is passed back to it from Usurper, itself. So to me this small part of it is working correctly.
Ninave wrote:I still can get it to work... still saying can find door.sys
Are you certain all characters that you have listed in your example(given above) are exactly the case case, no spaces etcetera
Ninave wrote:The usurper gameitself has a normal Node folder.. not any number after it..
Yes It does have a single NODE folder, and it should always be there. Usurper will put files in there and delete them as it needs to. BUT the door.sys file sent from gameserv generally will not go into that folder, but the temporary NODE6(my punctuation may be off, as I do not have a running system to double check right this instant).

As I have to go get my grandkids from school, I'll have to send this quick. Have you looked at the u.zip file I have referenced in this thread earlier last year. It is a complete gamesrv and one usurper door in a single folder that would normally be located at c:\\u and it was zipped up and is accessable from my website or download. try that, gotta go

OK back from getting the g-kids home from school.. The following quoted area is from myslf on this almost identical discussion from this thread, back about 1 Oct 2004
Lenny of Repan wrote: I am uploading to my website http://www.knaper.org/usrp/U/u.zip
I don't have any other links to it yet, but you should be able to right -click the above and save link to your selected folder. This zip file contains folder u that contains (on my machines) an operating Gameserver, with a New Mode Usurper v0.20d in the folder, with all associated files.. I did have to"open" the IP address in my multiple firewalls for the machine to monitor port 23.

One last thought just passed through my ancient brain, Pathname puncutation is critical.. Even Capitalization, and Windows has a habit of changing that.. c:\\U.. is NOT the same as c:\\u.. This was re-enforced when I set the above link. Originally it didn't work because of that exact reason.
Since all that work was done in 2004, there is an index page for that particular web-folder, http://knaper.org/usrp/U/
where you can just right click from that index page upon the link and save the link to your hard-drive.

It should have the file examples for that specific usurper/gameserv that you can look at. I'm still not convinced your pathname usurperonline is not too long a name, but I am probably wrong. Are thee any other "SYSOP's" out there reading this that care to chime in..???

So in continuation, YES I suspect it is something you wrote incorrectly, and it has to be in either the gameserv ini files or the usurper files, have you checked your usurper.ctl file for pathnames???(sorry mind in gear whilst a typin...
my "beta" door usurp.ctl file contains the following uncommented lines
beta-usurp.ctl wrote: SYSOPFIRST LENNY
SYSOPLAST
BBSNAME Guild of Repan
BBSTYPE DOORSYS
XFOSSIL
;LOCKBAUD 57600
STATUS ON

and the usurp.ctl from c:\\u contains the following uncommented lines
u-usurp.ctl wrote: SYSOPFIRST SYSOP

BBSNAME Game Server
BBSTYPE DOORSYS
XFOSSIL
;LOCKBAUD 57600
STATUS ON
STATFORE 7

Looking at the two, the only difference is the SYSOP name
and the BBS name, which would be displayed within usurper, so no real difference.

I am almost certain that dozens, if not hundreds have successfully set up these asimilar systems, with and without these guidelines.. :)
:idea: If you haven't already, maybe download that u.zip file and look there at all of the gameserv & usurper files. :arrow:

Otherwise my apologies to all others out there ...my :?: sceneial :?: brain seems ta be a burstyn upon tiz sef...

I answered via e-mail. Grab the DOOR.SYS from the samples.zip file in the usurper archive.

Ok, here is the deal. Is there anyway to make Usurper not look in my gamesrv dir for its datafiles? I want to have usurper in its on dir.

gamesrv = e:\\bbs\\gamesev

usurper = e:\\bbs\\usurper

I'm getting the 'cannot find cfg file' error when the usurper files are not located in the gamesrv dir.

I was thinking about running different games and it doesn't make sense to have them all glommed together in the gamesrv folder.

Anyone else have that issue?

I didn't. I suspect it is in the pathnames of your .ini files for usurper and gameserver. I ran between 2 and 10 different Usurper doors with gameserver. Therefore I know you acn do more than one door games.

However, I haven't even thought about gameserv in more than a year, and my old memory chips are not what they used to be. I'm certain the answer has already been given in this thread.

KEY to most things in the gameserv/usurper match was always exact pathnames, and exact UPPER/lower case usage. That is probably where your problem is.

As most things have gone for me today, my attempt to attach the GAMES.INI file didn't work.
Thus here is an excerpt..

This is part of my GAMES.INI file that was in my gameserv folder c:\\gor it links each game choice to the respective c:\\usrp\\* folder where each different usurper game was located.
GAMES.INI wrote: [~]
Access=10
Command=C:\\gor\\gsstats\\gsstats.exe -d*D
Description=Gamesrv Stats
DropFile=0

[&]
Access=10
Command=c:\\gor\\feedback.bat *N
Description="FeedBack to Lenny"
DropFile=1

[A]
Access=10
Command=C:\\usrp\\A-Door\\usurp.bat *N
Description="Beta- Difficulty 10"
DropFile=1

Access=10
Command=C:\\usrp\\beta\\usurp.bat *N
Description="Beta V0.20 door b"
DropFile=1

[C]
Access=10
Command=c:\\usrp\\c-v20d\\usurp.bat *N
Description="Beta v0.20d door c"
DropFile=1

the referenced batch file for each Usurper door game has in the respecctive directory, the file usrp.bat.
In directory A-Door, usrp.bat that file contains the following lines:
usrp.bat wrote: cd c:\\usrp\\A-Door
c:\\usrp\\A-Door\\usurper.exe /N%1 /PC:\\gor\\NODE%1
cd C:\\gor\\node%1

again, punctuation is critical. My GAMES.INI file had entries for more than a dozen different doors.

New GameSrv / Usurper Info

Post by Ree »

Hi all,

I just found this thread and see that getting GameSrv and Usurper to play together has been a bit of a struggle. So I've packaged up the latest copy of Usurper (v.20d at the time of this writing) in a GameSrv Door Installer Archive to help you all get Usurper up and running without any hassles.

There is only one catch here...this new archive only works with the latest pre-release version of GameSrv, and is not compatable with v3.10.19b2 which I think most of you are using.

So if you're interested in taking a look, you can find the latest downloads at http://www.gamesrv.ca -- Hopefully the latest version will be out of Pre-Release status soon, and then we can do away with that old messy v3.10.19b2 version of GameSrv, and the problems it had with running door games, for good!

Thanks for the info and efforts. I'm glad to see that gameserver is being worked upon again. I'll try to check the distro this weekend.
