player time per day problem

Post by snork »

Ok so i recently got usurper set up and working, however I have a problem where line 87 as described in the config file :

"[87] Time limit for players every day" does not match what is actually in the editor, which is actually :

"87, Log player entrances in the news yes/no".

This is a problem because as a result, all players seem to get set to a default of maybe 1 minute online time before they get kicked off due to having no time left for the day.

Setting the amount of time they have left in the editor also doesn't help as a work around, as it seems to get set back to 1 minute or whatever whenever you log in.

Any ideas?

I am running 0.20d iirc

Yes, you are correct here. This is as you have described. I even created a new usurper.cfg using the usurper editor. i have to say that the Editor line 87, Log player is correct, NOT the description at the end of the cfg file that you can see with notepad or wordpad.

Every usurper.cfg that I have set up in version 0.20d, has not altered line 87 to other than YES, but I am also running in local mode only for the last few years.

What I suspect is the user time left upon entry to the game is NOT being passed in the dropfile, or is not specified in usurp.ctl,
When I edit the line ""Maxtime 67" into the usurp.ctl file, my user time in /L local mode,
is set to an initial time of 67 minutes. You can try this, but it is probably controlled by the time passed in the dropfile from your system.

Check any dropfile you see in your usurper directory, or node directory. Your usurp.ctl file should specify the "BBSTYPE DOORSYS" or whatever.

If this doesn't help, post that here. You should also list the type dropfile you are using, and what type program you are using to run your bbs/telnet whichever. There are SYSOP's that drop by here that will know more than me.

oh! THATs where it is. Thanks, somehow I managed to completely miss the "maxtime" line in usurp.ctl, i guess i got thrown off by that line in usurper.cfg so didn't examine the CTL too closely again.

Oh well, i'm a noob :P but at least it's working now. Cheers.

Great!!! We are all "noob'" at some point or other. If you had not asked the question, I would have no idea either. I've never before used Maxtime. And it sounds like the best thing is it solved your problem.

Not a problem, I often think I've finished something when I haven't.
OK next check to see that the usurp.ctl is naming the BBSType for the dropfile your system uses.
Be sure to read all the choices and notes for BBSTypes in the commented section.
If you haven't already done so, be sure to review the SYSOP.DOC located in the DOCS directory.

Pretty sure I have that part right, i'm using the pcboard.txt dropfile for WWIV, I am using Mystic BBS just as an FYI.

Pretty sure I have that right simply because Usurper flatout will not start in a multi-node setup if it can't read the dropfile, that's the roadblock i had for a while before i finally got it figured out. I will have a closer look at the usurp.ctl when i get a chance though.

Also check your Mystic Doc's and settings to make sure it is sending the proper information to the dropfile. I don't have a file definition handy right now. I do know there are some systems out there using Mystic with usurper.
